10 Traits of a Successful StomperAgent

by Mark Eckenrode

Business and real estate today require more than a typical and traditional approach. In fact, we’re seeing more and more Realtors enjoying success by not following the herd and breaking the mold by doing business differently… StomperAgents.

Listed below are the defining traits of a StomperAgent.

1. Purposeful

StomperAgents have a goal in mind for what their marketing should accomplish. Act with purpose so that all of your activities can build upon and leverage each other and you’ll easily move you and your market to your goal.

2. Time, Energy, and Imagination

StomperAgents know that marketing does not have to cost an arm and a leg. You have other resources in your arsenal - your time, energy and imagination. Devote these resources to the clients who reward you with their highly-profitable business instead of the whining, marginally rewarding ones.

3. WIIFM-centric

StomperAgents know we’re all motivated WIIFM (What’s In It For Me?). This is true of clients, teammates, loved ones - we all look out for our own self-interest. Knowing this, you will be able to understand what motivates your prospects and clients and know how to serve them better.

Critical Point: the key to learning their WIIFM mentality is by being involved.

4. Build Relationships

StomperAgents know that personal relationships drive business. They understand that with today’s costs it’s impractical to rely on advertising alone to drive sales - you have to have intersted, motivated, and raving fans.

Look for ways to be involved, ask questions, listen, and by all means - give first!

5. Congruent

StomperAgents make sure their marketing message is accurate and matches their identity. People aren’t quick to forgive if you promote one message but, in actuality, are something else.

Personality sells, let yours show in all your marketing.

6. Consistent

StomperAgents market one message, over and over. In today’s hyper-marketed culture, if you mix and match messages the only thing you’ll succeed in doing is confusing your market.

7. Investment

StomperAgents never spend money on marketing, they “invest.” It’s more than mere semantics, investments demand returns. Before investing money, determine the return you want, how you will measure it and what criteria will be for repeating or dropping the activity.

8. Measured & Accountable

StomperAgents always keep their marketing accountable by measuring it. Use a chart to track your marketing efforts - review, and eliminate the bad, double the good.

9. Committed

StomperAgents know it can take time to connect with a market. Resist the temptation to bail out and change your message before it’s had a chance to sink in and deliver results. The most popular products and services in the world we remember because of the company’s commitment to a long-term marketing plan.

A mediocre marketing plan with commitment will always prove more profitable than a brilliant marketing plan without commitment.

10. Unconventional

StomperAgents know that following the rules, towing the line, and doing what every one else is doing is a surefire way to not get noticed.

If you didn’t make the rules, you can change them!

11. Adopt & Adapt

StomperAgents look outside their own industry for inspiration and innovation.

Drive-thru service was invented by a bank, but restaurants quickly adapted the idea to their customers. They realized it was a way to serve customers more quickly. Drive-thru sales now account for more than half the fast food sales in the United States.

What’s up with 11 traits when I promised only 10? Well, StomperAgents like to Over Deliver ;)

Have I missed any? What would you add to the list?
