Websites, blogging, social media… the tools of the new media Realtor. But, by using these tools are you actually a real estate lemming setting yourself up for failure?
Answer these 5 questions to find out…
It seems many Realtors would like to believe that all they have to do is simply show up and buyers and sellers will call all day.
Beyond The Basics
Beyond just showing up, there are those that think that because they blog, are involved in social media and go to conferences that they’re doing something different enough to attract a horde of potential clients, pen in hands, waiting to sign up.
Realtors buy into this make-believe willingly because, well, business is hard. It’s much easier to believe that if all you have to do is write a blog post, chat on Twitter, or answer a question on ActiveRain that success will come.
Obviously, there’s a flaw in this thinking.
If you believe the hype that by doing these things you’re actually doing something different enough to be successful then you’re more like a lemming headed towards a cliff than you are a business-focused Realtor.
Are You A Real Estate Lemming?
So, are you set up to be a lemming or a real estate success?
- Are you doing something original and obviously better, or just copying what your broker advised or some other agent did? Why would a prospect choose your copycat lemming self from any other agent?
- Does your positioning appeal to a motivated audience, or is it just cool to you? Just because you can do/say it doesn’t mean you should.
- Have you developed an actual offer so that you appeal to your audience? Your offer is not the same as how you provide service.
- Do you communicate this offer so that it’s descriptive and compelling? It should be apparent in all your marketing and, most importantly, in how you provide service.
- What are your plans for providing service above and beyond what is expected by your audience? How you “wow” people determines repeat and referral business.
Activities such as blogging or social media are not enough to reach your audience and generate business. Any lemming can that stuff. But, if you take the time to develop a compelling and valuable message then you’ll get the business you truly deserve.
