While reports of the demise of traditional newspapers are all over the place, the same can’t be said for many niche publications that are clearly growing. Good for you because you can use these niche channels to grow the readership of your own blog.

Traffic kicks with a column

A number of years back I ran a kung-fu school and one of the most cost-effective, recognition building, and easiest ways I got publicity was by writing a column for the local newspaper. Folks would come in, approach me on the street even (I had my photo in the article byline), with questions or to just chat me up.

Aside from local newspapers you also have your choice of club newsletters, association magazines, and other publications that have readership.

These kinds of publications are often on the lookout for content to fill their pages and are willing to pay you with a byline.

hint: in your byline, give folks a reason to visit your website or blog

Get popular with locals

For example, there may be a large hiking club in your area. An article about the homes along popular trails may be of interest, and helps position you as a real estate expert. In your byline, let folks know they can download a PDF from your website on the “Top Trail Friendly Neighborhoods in Phoenix” or something similar.

There are a lot of nich publications and associations out there, prime groups for a target market even. You’d do well to tap into them and become their real estate authority.

What are your experiences with getting your articles in print publications?
