Google Revolutionizes Keyword Research

The way you conduct keyword research has just been changed. Google has now released Keyword Search Volume in their Keyword Tool.

This killer new feature gives you two goodies: Average Search Volume for the previous month and the Average Monthly Search Volume for the past 12 months.

No more trying to choose between Keyword A or Keyword B. It’s all right there in Google’s Keyword Tool.

Mark-

In the Phoenix area, I noticed a number of keywords that have a high pay-per-click cost, but have a low number of search occurrences. I suspect this will help people re-prioritize which keywords make the most sense to spend money on, as well as write for.

Mark Eckenrode July 9, 2008 at 5:05 pm

@Steve Belt – the thing about keywords is that they don’t all convert at the same rate. that could be one reason the prices you saw were high, despite the low search levels. that keyword may drive some high-converting traffic. testing and tracking is the way to go.

the new tool features will most definitely help in establishing a good selection of keywords to start with. any insight into search patterns is insight into the market.

@Rob Cook – hey rob, interesting site you have there. how is it working for you in regards to lead generation?

Rob Cook July 14, 2008 at 9:57 am

Hi Mark, it’s been good to me, it’s been tailing off as of late in terms of the number of leads I’ve been able to generate, mostly via pay-per-click. I think it’s a combination of less interest in the market here in Dubuque, IA in general and folks ever-increasing hesitation to having to sign in/register for access to MLS listings.

Mark, has anyone told you today that you are awesome? Thanks for this, I’m off to do some research.

Mark Eckenrode July 14, 2008 at 6:21 pm

@Rob Cook – it’s pretty cool, though. if it’s alright i may actually highlight it with some tips on a future post.

Mark Eckenrode July 14, 2008 at 6:23 pm

@Stephanie Edwards-Musa – my mom actually emailed me today but she didn’t tell me that ;)

thanks, and i hope you find some good keywords.

Hey Mark,

Nice little entry. I love these little short video examples of how and why something like Googles keyword is helpful. It’s a great way to make something that I would find personally tedious, interesting. Thanks!

Mark Eckenrode July 20, 2008 at 10:49 pm

@Brad Coy – thanks. i like these short vids too… a quick dose or insight into something – call it “bullet point marketing” ;)
